Pivoting without the pivot bit!
« on: March 19, 2017, 04:38:25 AM »
Three units are preparing to move forward. Navarre (brown flag) leads the way, followed by Sparre (blue) and Maffei (Bavarian):

All need to pivot, but pretty much disastrous for the paintwork and flags, so get a piece of wire (2BW long):

Make yourself a unit footprint template (mines just the same mdf I used to make the unit bases) and place it in position along the wire:

Then place Navarre where the template was:

Sparre does a bigger pivot:

And then Maffei attempts to follow Navarre:

Unfortunately its footprint will overlap with Sparre so the template shows the furthest Maffei can move forward:

Of course in real life you'd manoevre Sparre more carefully but I hope this shows how figures can be pivotted wthout the need to crush the little guys :o)

Lovely figures. But is this for Blücher or Maurice?

Blucher. I'd be very tempted to not pivot for Maurice too as wheeling is very inaccurate using models.

looks useful.

2 questions :
What type of wire is it? guage/thickness almost look like a piece of wire clothes hanger.
Does the unit template does have a groove underneath for the wire to sit/slide through? or is it solid?

The wire is about 1.2mm diameter, so thinner than a clothes hanger. No idea where I originally got the wire from though.

Yes, I cut a groove into the mdf so I could slide the template along (the template is actually three pieces of 2mm mdf, 6cm x 2cm each). I also cut a groove vertically so I could flip the template vertical, remove the wire, then place the figures flush to the template. The wire/template has evolved gradually over the months  :)
