New on board
« on: September 09, 2012, 10:24:47 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm new on board.
I've just subscribe to be able to post questiosn about M&R rule.
I'm french and the gaming mate of PAB that has already post here.
We both like M&R because we first love "the age of reason" period and second because M&R is suitable for solo wargamers.
Unfortunately as we live at 1 hour distance, we couldn't play together as often as we would, so solo wargaming is something we have to deal with.
I'm currently painting some austrians then I will start the prussians.
Here is my french blog where you could see my current units.

Hi Frederic,

welcome!

It seems that I am your next neighbour after PAB ...
(alas - definitely more than one hour away)

Nevertheless I hope that we can meet and play together one day.

All the best
Axel

Hello Frédéric !

Nice to welcome you on this forum !

However, definitely, something is rotten in the State of France, if french people start to write in foreign languages on forums ...

Nevertheless I hope that we can meet and play together one day.

Sehr gute Idee, Axel ! And Frédéric is a very fortunate fellow, he has a ca 215 sq ft playing room just for him ! With a permanently installed huge table and all amenities ! The Wargamer's Paradise !!!

;D The forum isn't a French one ... and the www isn't French territory either ...  ;)
Nevertheless I do understand that strange feeling, writing  in a foreign language to a fellow countryman.
I actually appreciate the French way of resisting and denying the sneaking infiltration of English.

Wow - that is something I never had - and most likely never will have ...

Axel

P.S.: Do you have any plans to visit CRISIS in Antwerp this year?

November is too early for me to be ready but we have scheduled with Patrice to be in Seclin (north of France) on 19 and maybe 20 january (it mainly depends if we find players for M&R demo games).

What I meant is that, considering the well-known allergy of frog-eaters for any kind of foreign languages, it was unexpected to see two french citizens writing in english and understanding each other ...  this is why I made the statement that France is no more what it was ...

Can you imagine that, by the time of the Lace Wars, all educated persons were speaking and writing French ? And in a very refined manner ...Nowadays, almost everybody in the world speaks Globish, which has in fact very few connections with Chaucer's or Marlowe's language ...

By the way, what is exactly Crisis ? I know quite well Antwerpen, I have been there a lot of times and I have some good friends there, but I do not know Crisis. May be a good opportuniy to meet and taste some Mussels and Abbey Beer ?

(laughing) Aah froglegs - I think its ages ago since I had any ... soo tasty. Don't worry, we have many people in Germany who all speak the same mothertongue and seemingly do not understand each other the least bit ... (mainly in Berlin) ::)

I know - Der alte Fritz used to speak rather Frenchh than German and his correspondence with Voltaire is very famous, n'est pas?

By the way, what is exactly Crisis ?...

CRISIS is an annual event which is organised by the Antwerp wargamers club "Tin Soldiers of Antwerp".

VERY dangerous for one's wallet, since they have 40+ traders from the UK and the continent and more or less the same number of - usually extremely nice - demonstration & participation games. This year it'll be on November, 3rd. I usually go to Antwerp on Friday, have a nice evening in the beautiful citycenter, go to the CRISIS on Saturday, go again for a good dinner in the evening and leave on Sunday morning.

http://www.tsoa.be/crisis_2012_general.html

Have a look at the traders list and the picture report of last years event and you get the right idea.

May be a good opportuniy to meet and taste some Mussels and Abbey Beer ?
That is exactly what I meant  ;D

Since you know Antwerp already, I suppose there is no need to convince you that the old city center is worth a visit  ;)

@ Axel : I spoke about Crisis in my Club and it seems that some of my colleagues are interrested. So it is more likely that we will organize a "charter car" from France to visit Antwerpen. I will PM you for more details.

Good news  :)
I'm looking forward to met you in Antwerpen.
The question is, will you be there just on Saturday or do we have the time to argue wether we go for mussels, sushi or anything of the other tasty things the old city center offers ...  ;)
