6mm Armies
« on: September 19, 2017, 02:00:32 AM »
Wanting to play a game based on Operation Market Garden or an alt-history battle where 11th Armoured push on after taking Antwerp to close the Scheldt.

I've played a few bits of these in 10mm with our homebrew Spearkrieg rules but looking at using 6mm with Rommel.

As such who would people recommend; got good use out of Baccus in past but they don't (as yet) do tanks. Price and quality of sculpts are both considerations.

GHQ models are beautiful, they are 1:285 scale which fits in with most of the buildings available, Magister Militum sell them in the UK. I've used Heroics and Ros, which are much cheaper and true 1:300 scale, this is because I already have armies from back in the day when H & R were the only game in town!

Another vote for the quality of GHQ but they are very expensive at almost £10 for a pack of 4 or 5 vehicles.  I've just been looking at CinC figures to fill in some gaps in the GHQ range, they also seem to be good quality and are about half the price of GHQ.  CinC can be obtained in the UK from wargamesemporium but they seem to have very low stock levels.  I am less keen on GHQ infantry, while very nicely cast the seem thin and a bit insubstantial as well as being priced at a similar level to the vehicles, having said that it might be worth getting some of their mounted figures to populate the vehicles.  Otherwise I have been impressed with Adler figures, they are about the same size as Baccus but seem more precisely cast.  Some say that the heads are too large for the bodies but personally I don't have a problem with that.

Seems like a good starting point - I might take a gander at the old Ebay and see where fate decides I go  :P

I would also recommend for Heroics/Ros and add Scotia MicroModels for consideration. Between them there is hardly a vehicle/weapon you cannot obtain (especially that H&R now also sell the wonderful Skytrex vehicles).

As noted, they do not have the individual detail of GHQ, but, you get 3 or 4 of them for the price of 1 GHQ model and if you need 6 of a particular vehicle you can buy just the 6 instead of having to buy 2 of the pre-packed GHQ 5 figure packs.

I agree that GHQ are pretty expensive. I was able to obtain over 100 GHQ tanks on ebay at around half price so I was happy with that. I just received an order on CinC vehicles which are about half the price of GHQ and they appear to be equal in quality. The only down side is that they do not have as wide a range as GHQ especially with trucks. I understand that CinC and GHQ are 1/285 scale rather than 1/300 scale which is representative of other manufacturers. I am not sure how much difference this makes though.

Where are you based?  I had a look in the UK and although Wargamesemporium carries CinC vehicles quite a lot seem to be out of stock.

I am in Massachusetts. I had a look at the CinC http://www.pfc-cinc.com/page/page/292435.htm

Their shipping to the UK appears quite reasonable. Also 2 retailers in the UK. England - UK

If you can navigate in German, there's a German supplier of CinC. The models are mixed in with GHQ in the listings, postage looks reasonable to UK:
