Basing ideas for 6mm
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:30:35 AM »
I've been reading up on this game and I think it looks really awesome.  I've only played one ancients game before on an invitation so I am completely new to this era.  I would probably do 6mm armies...

Is there a standard 6mm basing size and layout for massed infantry?  I do Blucher on 60x30 bases, and am guessing that this will be a common basewidth here as well.  I'm guessing either 12 figs wide by 4 deep, and then maybe 4 bases together as a unit.

Just curious what others are doing in this area.

I suppose it would depend upon which figures you are using, and how they come already based.  In strips?

I have based mine 60x30 1 stand = 1 unit. I painted mine about 10 years ago and this is the first time I have based them up for any rules, all baccus. I  have by a miracle ended up with enough of the  maximum troop types for 2 roman and 2 German armies,  and around 30 mass inf units for each side. I just used 9 strips for German MI 6 strips for roman MI what ever looks OK for LI, 9 figs for all MC 6 figs for LC oh and I have 2 elephants on one Base.

Yes, I was looking at Baccus figures which I believe are all based on 4 figure strips 20mm wide sold in groups of 24 total figure units with command.  I bought some of their Napoleonics and loved them.   Their sample photos depict 12 wide by 2 deep, but in my reading it seams that massed infantry were much deeper than this.

I actually just ordered my Russian cards for Blucher and should be painting my 6mm Russians, but I read the Crisis essay and other sample materials and it drew my interest.  I'm probably the only one who gets distracted from one game project by a new one  :o

Most of my German MI are 3 figs per strip I use 9 per Base. I have had them a few years and I haven't seen them on the baccus website since.
