Game number 4, what a finish.
« on: March 13, 2016, 12:50:08 AM »
Tha Adelaide Hills once again thundered with the clash of two mighty armies.  The Romans vs my Persians.  This was a close fought bloody affair.  My Persian sitting on a hill and the cavalry causing havoc on the flanks.  We are finding that our use of the cards is improving, only rallying if absolutly nessessary.  I t was the last move that proved  to be the most interesting The Romans started their turn with 2 cards, used 1 card for movement, leaving them with 1 card remaining and the Persians 6, with our tribal cavalry ready to overrun the enamy baggage.  The Romans made it to the Persian baggage after defeating the unit garding the baggage in the last move.  The end result, Roman minus 1 card for looting, Persian minus 6 cards for lossing the baggage. A draw.

Looking back on the battle the mistakes I made were, not to place 2 hills in the centre, placing massed archers in front of the spear (I should have used skirmishers), putting the baggage in the wrong place and worst of all not using a Parthian shot card when we had the opportunity.

What improved, using the cards better, being clear about the battle plan and using my Priest at the right time.

Never mind, it will be on again in a fortnights time.

Cheers Martin from Adelaide

Sounded an exciting game but, if the Roman player only had 2 cards one for movement and 1 for combat he would lose as soon as places the combat card see page 54 which states he immediately loses the game.

I deliberately attacked all down the line when my opponent was running out of cards as if I attack with more units than he has cards remaining he immediately loses!

The way i read it
The combat had to happen on the previous turn
He moved onto the baggage this turn.

Apologies does say last turn.

My misreading, when I had a similar experience, I destroyed a unit guarding the baggage and then advanced after combat to take the baggage in same turn?

Sounds like it was a better game compared to the previous ones and I note your comments
only rallying if absolutely necessary

Will have to have another game, back playing Blucher at the moment but, I do have some more Romans on the painting table for Aurelian.

Any pictures of your four battles? Looks like 10mm scale from your previous post this should give a good look...

Romans vs. Persians is my favorite match-up in this game.   It always produced nail-biting results in the playtests.
