Title: Lasalle 6mm on a single base?
Post by: mameluke on February 03, 2016, 07:48:19 PM
My friends and I are loving Blucher currently, and we're basing our 6mm minis no a card sized base.  I'm basing them one unit per base.  Would Lasalle work on a fixed base system like that, or are the formation changes etc. a big deal in the ruleset?

I'd love to be able to play both brigade level and battalion level scale with the same army.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Amin

You need top be able to show column, line and Square in Lasalle (and possibly march column too)
Formations matter a great deal - and the change of frontage as you change formation also matters.
You could probably manage with 2 bases per unit - side by side for line, one behind the other for column, back to back for square

You also need to be able to show Large units, which are half as big again as normal ones, so would have 3 bases in this scheme.

Hi Mameluke,

I had the same idea of basing for multiple rule sets. I have used base elements of 20mm x 20mm and 40mm x 20mm and will use sabots to combine them where necessary.

So for Lassale 4 20mm x20mm bases = a unit and 6 20mm x 20mm bases = a large unit.

For Blucher I sabot them up for  60mm x 40mm.

All the bases are lined with 'steel' paper and I'll use fridge magnet type material to make sabots (its cheap and comes in sheets of various sizes!).

Also as Doomben has shown for huge battles (see Blucher Waterloo/Wavre scenario) the basic 40mm x 20mm bases will be ideal for Blucher!

My base elements which I can mix and match depending on the rules I use:

A Blucher sample infantry brigade with artillery attached:

This has been working ok...

Hi,
For my army, I use bases that comply with the ones used by players in the club I have joined.  They had been playing Napoleons Battles for some 20 years before migrating to Black Powder, then onto Lasalle.  However, I started with Blucher for Corps/army sized battles and have now started Lasalle.  I did not want to have 2 separate armies, so I didnt use the 'recommended' sized units of 8 figures on a 40mm frontage, but 4 figures on a 20mmx25mm frontage, in units of 4 to make a battalion.  This allows me to do all the formation changes.  For cavalry, I have 40mm frontage with 3 figures per stand and 2 or 3 stands per regiment.  I have also had sabots made so I can fit my Lasalle based units into a brigade sabot for Blucher allowing me to play a variety of games.
The bases are 3mm MDF.

It works for me

Basil

Thank you, this is what I intend to do too. My 6mm are based on creditcards with magnetic tape backing. I don't want to fiddle around with sabots and will stick to the Blücher sized cards.

Credit cards make great Blucher bases.  8)
