Selfmade Prepared Marker - 3-6mm
« on: September 26, 2017, 10:03:13 AM »
Still thinking/working on usable selfmade "prepared" marker for my 3mm miniatures.
The following basic ideas should also work for 6mm miniatures.

Using a florist's wire (maybe still to thick, try next a 0,25mm variant).

Wire: I wrapped the wire around a thin (maybe still to thick) nail.
Then i glue the spiral on a small base, suitable for my unit bases.

Sandbag emplacement: I use the same florist´s wire, take it double and wrapped the wire around itself (couldnt explain it better in english, but maybe pic shows, what i mean).
Then i cut small pieces and bend it in a way, which looks like a sandbag emplacement. You can vary the length and the height.

Still not perfect, but i working on it  8)

As i said, you can use the basic idea for sure for a 6mm scale too. Maybe you must vary the thickness of the florists wire and/or the nail.

The sandbags work well - a very cunning approach.

But I think the florist wire is too thick to represent barbed wire. I used to use electrical wire with 20mm figures, and it is a lot thinner.

I've used steel wool to represent barbed wire. Don't know if that would work for 3mm.

The ground/label base is a 25x25mm size and
the top/unit base is a 25x20mm size.

Springs from clicky top pens work great - pre rolled and just pull them out.

I used the really thin wire from inside electrical leads. It's a bit too bendy when it comes to painting it, so you have to be careful. I like the pens idea, I might try that next.
60mm x 40mm base:

Are those 15mm miniatures? Here you have for sure much more and easier possibilities, to represent sandbags/wire and other things.
My intention/work is, how to create easy markers for 3mm miniatures (and my unit base size of 25x20mm), so you can´t do many things, which are possible in 10mm or larger;)

Ok, new attempts ;)

Kept the 0,65 florist's wire for the "sandbag" prepared markers and used a
0,25mm florist´s wire and a thinner nail for the "wire" prepared markers as you can see here.
I think, it´s now a good compromise between easy and cheap selfmade markers and exact realistic implementation ;)

The mat, better saying the digital file is from Ivan Golyjenkov, which is mat designer of
http://www.tinywargames.co.uk/

You can see his "standard" mat designs on his website
http://wars175x.narod.ru/wargameprint/designe.html
and those standard mats you can also buy from tinywargames direct.

But he is also an expert of customizing mats, if you need a special map for a special szenario/battle,
look to those examples of his customizing mats (files).
http://wars175x.narod.ru/wargameprint/news.html#2017

I got from him already two customized files, the pics are also on those website (Battle of Basques Road and Battle of Borodino).

But i got in this case only the digital file (beach mat 6mm size) and customized the easier things myself,
e.g. scale down to 3mm, adding a square grid and let the file print in a german store.
You can see my full mat also in this thread ;)

The 0.25mm wire looks good. I'm now using 0.15mm Kanthal wire (used in vape devices), which is better than the really thin stuff I was using, but the 0.25mm might be better for manipulating and painting. (The horizontal wire in the image is cotton)
