Scharnhorst Module for Vassal
« on: February 15, 2016, 07:30:11 AM »
Sam,

I was wondering if you would mind if I posted a simple module for Scharnhorst on Vassal (a game engine for playing online versions of boardgames:  http://www.vassalengine.org/).

Using this module players could play the campaign portion of the game via email before meeting in person to play the battle.  Alternatively, solo Blucher players could use it to drive battles by campaigning against other players via email.

This is the first time I've put together a module, so it needs a fair bit of testing with other folks (works on my computer though, which is a win for me!) and polish.

As I input the maps, I kept the copyright language at the bottom.  I only put in the counters, no cards.

Let me know if you're OK with this and I'll post it here (or send it to folks who would like to try it out).

Thank you,

Rob

I don't have any experience with it, so let me have a look first and get my head around it.

Sure thing.  Let me know if you want to see the module.  I'm pretty sure I can send it to you (it is about 2.5MB).  You have to download the actual Vassal program to use it (free at the website; everything on Vassal is free).

The modules allow players to either play online or create logfiles that can be emailed back and forth. Very much suited to you the you go-I go format of Scharnhorst.

Thanks,

Rob

I personally would love an "eyes on" of this . I have been trying to become familiar with vassal to produce the same sort of thing but I just don't have the time. . My group are widely spread and this would be ideal. Feel free to send me a copy of the module for my own personal use. Reinventing the wheel is not a pastime of mine  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have put together a Vassal module for the Hundred Days campaign. I'm not an expert but have done a couple of modules for other games before. Hopefully, we're going to try it out soon.

Hi

Did anything happen with the VASSAL Module? I have limited space at home and having the 100 days on computer would be great. Unfortunately I don't have any experience in writing modules for Vassal so don't think I would be much help on that front, but testing I can do. (Have been a software tester, just don't tell work:))

Regards

Andy

NBOS has a newer program called Skwyre, and preparing games is pretty easy.

http://www.nbos.com/

the program is free at the moment, I have found it very interesting.

I designed the module but haven't had a chance to do much with it for ages. I'm happy to share it for people to play around with.

I'm not sure that NBOS Skywre is the same kind of thing as Vassal. It might well work but it's a different approach.
