Some ship archetypes for new players
« on: October 27, 2016, 12:21:35 PM »
I'm introducing a few people at the club to the game soon, and thought for the first game I'd pre-build the ships for them. None of them will have seen the rules before. If we can squeeze a second game in on the night I'll give them the option of building their own ship.

So I thought I'd build some slightly unbalanced ships conforming to some common gaming archetypes and let them pick. The idea is that unbalanced ships will demonstrate some of the game's principles better.:

Equipped with a tactical jump drive to make hit-and-run attacks.

Black Cat Hull (8 structure, speed 4), Tactical jump drive & "Jumper" crew, "Navigator" crew, twin needle guns, Talon, Positronic shield, firewall & Shimmer, Brain 7. Cargo 4.

Very durable and with projectable defences to buff friendlies.

Sentry Hull (15 structure, speed 3), The Stinker, Brain 6, Projector, Shared Defence platform, Posi, firewall, shimmer, Needle Gun, Synerga Effector, cargo space 11.

A balanced build.

Skorpion hull (10 structure, speed 5), Brain 6, Scalpel, Needlegun, Stinger, T1 Effector, Hull patch, Defence worm, Positronic shield, Shimmer, Firewall, "Max A Miser" crew. Cargo 5.

Fast and armed to the teeth, but very weak defensively.

Skorpion Hull (10 structure 5 speed), Magnum Railgun, Damocles Effector, Synerga Effector, Scalpel, Afterburner, Brain 4, Positronic shield. Cargo 2.

Cloaked and loaded with broadcast weapons.

Black cat hull (8 structure 4 speed), Cloak, Sparrow, Stinger, Brain 5, Firewall, Paladin, Nav Worm, Defence worm, Demagentiser, Friction, Console scrambler, Amuser, Turbine slug. Cargo 7.

I recognize the Serenity model, but what are the others and who makes them?

They're playing pieces for the Firefly boardgame. You get a box of five resin ships, there are a couple of different sets. IIRC they're by Gale Force Nine.
