   I have a collection of 28mm Napoleonic figs mounted individually on 1" sq bases. If Im looking at the basing diagram correctly for 20mm+ sized figs, it looks like one option for me will be to place 4 figs on a 2" sq sabot. This would make for 16 figure small battalions. All of my artillery is already on 2" sq bases and my cav are on 1x2" bases, so could be placed 2 figs on a 2" sabot.

   Does this sound like a good option?

   I note that you could do double bases; 4"x2" rectangular stands with 8 figs each....would this just be another option, or is there an advantage in doing this? Obviously, with the cost & time required to paint 28's, 8 figs per stand might be a bit tough...

   I'm just returning to the hobby and I am building 2 28mm armies, originally I had 4 stands of 2x2 per battalion but I have done 24figures on 4 bases of 6 figures. All based on 50mm x 40mm bases and they look pretty good.

   So far I have 3 British battalions and I am half way through m second French one.

   Still 28mm looks good, I have always liked the big battalion look but I haven't got th time to paint them up 24 figures is a good halfway house and takes me about 2 weeks to paint.

   I guess Im wondering what the prefered option is though...Im trying to add 28mm figures to my 12 man units that I already have and am figuring on building 16 figure small battalions or 24 fig large battalions...planning, in essence to go back and paint 4 more figs per unit, since my two armies are French & Brits....mounting everything on 2" stands...would this be a good way to go???

   Of course ultimately there are no restrictions on basing - other than the logical limits of your table space and opponents.

   A 2" base for 28mm is, I think, the ideal size. The number of figures on that base is totally up to you. It won't affect the game at all.

   We use 50x25 mm with 3 miniatures for infantry, and 50x50 mm with 2 minis for the cavalry. Generals and artillery also in 50x50 mm square.
