Hi all, just a quick note that the latest version of the points Cam originally developed is now available on my blog Wargaming.info. These are the points we plan to use for the BattleCry 2012 Tournament here in Auckland in February, but we may tweak them up to end of January depending on further play testing & feedback.

No worries - note Cam did the bulk of the original work, I've just jumped on board since the original and with Cam we've been tweaking it and trying ideas as well as taking on board feedback from one or two other NZ gamers - we think it's close now but the important thing to remember is its intended for use with Historical OOBs (or otherwise the AB Lists) - not Fantasy/Imaginary ones - as there is no way to build in the kind of logic needed to cover making up an army from scratch (you'd be best to use AB Builder for that then just calculate out the points afterwards).
The biggest point going forward is probably still whether the cavalry cost is right, and/or if the reserve infantry cost could be abused for someone to have a dozen plus off-table Landwehr battalions costing about 2 points each that add 24 Morale points when arriving on table! Hence the need to insist on Historical OOBs, or otherwise AB Lists...
It's not intended to completely replace the AB Builder Sam designed in the rules, but hopefully it'll provide an alternate option for Tournaments and a way to design scenarios & games using full historical Divisions (or even 2 Divisions) with appropriate supporting brigade attachments, etc. We are open to any constructive feedback, especially prior to the end fo January - as we plan to use these points for the BattleCry Tournament and end of Jan 2012 will be the point we lock this version down as it were prior to the tournament.
As with all points systems the larger the force the more reliable the points balance will be and we envisage for a typical division sized game between the major nations you want about 200-250 points of troops.

P.S. I just noticed two small typos (nothing major) that I will fix in next draft.
Bottom of Sub-Commanders should obviously read: Portuguese in the Peninsula & Hundred Days Hanoverians use British Points if Sub-Commander is treated as British.
And Special Rules, Send in the Guards should read: -10 if this Optional Rule is active & in use for the division.

Having spent the past month or so tinkering with rule tweaks to deal with some of the issues I've had personally with the AB system, this might just be the simple solution to my problem.
I'll apply this points system to some historical orbats and see what I come up with.
However it goes, thanks for the effort in bringing this to the Lasalle community. It will prove very useful methinks.

P.S. Any chance your point system can give a value for British rockets (4-5 points)? I'm a sucker for those crazy wayward missiles.

Love it,
I've been using your system for designing my army builder lists for the southamerican war of independence so I appreciate the updates on the work you guys do...thanks !!

Well at Waterloo there was only a single section (1 or 2 Troughs), the rest of the Rocket Troop having 5 x 6pdr Guns! (On Wellington's insistence of course). So in Lasalle that's half-a-stand - and probably not worth costing specially (just treat 1 firing die as a rocket all the rest as standard guns - so only 2 bounce-through dice at long range (instead of 3), and only 5 cannister dice at short (instead of 6), plus 1 Rocket die in both cases - noting also of course there is no Howitzer die present).
I know Rockets were present for a bit in the Peninsula but I'll have to look up some sources to see if it's enough to warrant it - I'm not sure if they ever deployed as a full Troop entirely of Rocket Troughs did they?
My gut feel for points cost (for a 3-stand unit) would be probably 4, as in the game mechanics terms they are significantly inferior to standard artillery, but can't realistically be costed less than that, although Cam may be less generous...? :-)

The points-costs are for a every Unit/Battalion or for every stand in this unit ?

For every unit/battalion

I've just uploaded Version 1.21 which has the minor errata above corrected plus Austrian Avante Garde Sub-Commander costs added, and has proposed new details for the costs of Attack/Defence bonuses and the Home-field Advantage rule.
This will likely be the version used for BattleCry here in Auckland in February.
We still have to determine a proposed cost for Impetuous Cavalry at some stage.
