I'm a total n00b when it comes to Napoleonic gaming. However, like any good historical wargamer, I am seeking some historical context for my army. Looking at the Russian Army in the Conquest Liberation period, I've chosen an Infantry Division. Finding that historical context, I chose Paskevich's 26th Infantry Division because it at the interesting part of Borodino and at Leipzig.
My problem seems to be in understanding how to convert this from the historical list to a game list. The 26th had two brigades of infantry, each with two regiments, each with two battalions. The 26th also had one brigade of jaegers with two regiments each with two battalions. This translates into 12 battalions, 8 of infantry and 4 of jaeger.
Using the Army Builder, my core force basically consists of the 2 infantry brigades and the 26th's artillery, and the jaegers would be an organic support. Thus my division via Army Builder would be 9 infantry battalions, 4 jaeger battalions, 1 position battery and 2 light batteries. I suppose I should not be complaining at the extra infantry battalion and extra light battery (which, I think was detached to Corps Artillery Reserves for both battles, I'll get back to you....), but it is confusing making the transition from historical to the game.
Is this a simple matter of K.I.S.S. in action?
It would be cool to have the right flags (a very relative term in the Russian army) for the division, but that extra battalion is throwing things off. I know I could make them all green and white, but where's the fun in THAT!?!
