Hello again everyone -
I have finally read through the rules and am re-reading now. I have so many questions I'm not really sure where to begin.
I am in the process of building a Russian army for the Empire/Liberation period. One thing I noticed is that there are NO cavalry units allowed for an infantry division except as a reserve brigade.
Along this line I also noted, in another topic, that Sam stated "A typical "army" for a small one-on-one pickup game is one Core List, plus one Support Brigade".
Virtually all my games will be pick-up games and solo games so I figure what Sam said above will apply to me for the most part.
However, if I follow what the AB rules state, as well as what Sam suggests, I will never seem to have Russian cavalry on the table.
So, the first question is, why do all the other armies get to have cavalry in their Support Brigands, and some even in the Core List, yet the British and Russian Infantry corps do not?
That being said, if I wanted to play a pick-up game, roughly based on Shevardino 1812, would I have to consider it a historical scenario and throw out the AB lists?
The initial attack on Shevardino came from the south-west, where Polish cavalry encountered the Cossacks near Yelnia (per Alexander Mikaberidze).
So, if I'm reading the rules correctly, the only way I would be allowed to have Russian cavalry deployed on the table from the beginning is to use historical scenarios or just ignore the AB list. Is this correct?
Thanks,
Larry
