Sam I am a little confused on the army lists and tournaments. Did you design the army lists so that you would be restricted to using one of the five periods for a tournament. Say the Liberation period. Your LIberation French would have to fight Liberation Austrians, Prussians, French or Russians? Or can you have a tournament with Conquest French fighting Hundred Day French?

The latter. You can take any one army list against any other army list, including something weird like "British Guards vs. British Guards."

Thanks for that. I was afraid my conquest Russians and French would be stuck facing only each other. Though I have a feeling that there will be alot of Conquest French if you ever get a tournament going.

Conquest French and Brits, probably, simply because they're the smallest armies, and both have a reputation for being good.
But as players begin to learn the game, they'll appreciate the other armies, both for color and diversity, and because they're bigger and have a higher tolerance for pain.
The "winningest" army in our local group was the Peninsular French. You give up a portion of your experienced infantry for conscripts, but you get an integral dragoon unit in their place. Having that little combined-arms team in your core list is very useful. The Liberation Prussians and the Austrian Avant-Garde lists have a similar asset.

Hmmm, I begin to see that this could be interesting getting just the right core and support groups. Then countering what your opponent selects. Good thing I like to paint up both sides for a game.

You mention that the conquest French have one of the smallest armies. What do the basic core armies run from in size? I see the Prussians run about 13-14 if on the attack, the poor French armies of the Liberation period have more units then the 100 days.

No, "core" means just the core. The rest are "supporting brigades."
The French core army in "Conquest" is six battalions and a foot battery. The smallest is actually the British Guards list, with only four core units.
I think the largest core is the Spanish, with ten.

Wow, four units doesnt leave one much room for any mistakes.

Do the British ever make mistakes?!?

Four units, two of which are large, plus some extra SK bases, plus artillery, and then of course plus a supporting brigade.

Sam are the 6 battalions in the French Conquest core all line?

There's no difference between Ligne and Légère.

Well that makes it easier, just paint up 2 regiments with 3 battalions apiece.
