Greetings,
I've got a mix of 18mm AB Austrians, which I am re-basing for Lassale. Now, I understand that the Austrians would generally amagamate thier Grenadier Companines into thier own battalions, but I am wondering- Was this always done? Would there be no grenadier companies in Line Infantry battalion?
I am just curious, as if that's the case I'll have to pick up more Austrian Line infantry to flesh out the units.

Amalgamated apart from in 1805 when under the Mack reforms the 1st Battalion of each Regiment was titled Grenadier and had 2 Alt companies with bearskins & 2 Jung companies in helmet. Remaining battalions of Regt all in helmets. These would all be small battalions too only 4 companies strong.

Remember that Austrians infantry battalions in the final campaigns were always very large, so you coul need man many figures

I'm working on a later list- Empire, and yes that is my problem, the huge battalions! I was thinking of doing either four stands of 8 line infantry plus two of 8 grenadiers, or five stands of line with one of grenadiers. Would this be historically appropriate?

My understanding is that in the 1809 campaign the grenadiers were converged into separate battalions from the beginning of the campaign.
Having said that I may have to sneak in one or two bases of grenadiers amongst my line battalions as a temporary fix until I paint more line. I am rebasing from units of 24 into 48!
