   We have many figures based up for Shako, using 30mm wide infantry and 40mm wide cavalry frontages. There are hundreds of units, so we are not proposing to rebase the infantry (It looks as if we need more guns, and these will be rebased 40mm wide).

   Page 10 suggests 1BW is the infantry base width, would you recommend using 30mm or 40mm in this situation?

   If 30mm, then the board is effectively 33% deeper - would it be appropriate to increase the basic game length from 16 turns to say 20 turns (or possibly start closer together and stick with 16 basic turns)?

   Overall I am temped to take a 40mm as the basic distance measurement, do you see any problems in conjunction with 30mm wide infantry bases?

   If you're going to use different infantry and cavalry base sizes, then it's important to use the infantry as your BW, because that will have an effect upon musketry range, command range, etc. (Although I suppose you could split the difference and create a 35mm BW.)

   As for modifying the game board or turn length, there's a little essay with guidelines for this that you download from this website, under Downloads > Tips.

   How about creating some 40mm sabots for the infantry - even better would be to have magnet / steel paper bottoms for them, so that then they'd stay firmly in place on the sabots. It wouldn't involve rebasing, you could continue to use the figures for different games, and would be relatively easy and cheap to do so. Steel paper and magnet stuff are pretty cheap from a variety of places.

   I see the point about command distances, so I will say with 30mm as 1BW

   A standard board 4 foot deep (metric 1200mm) table is 30BW of 40mm and 40BW of 30mm, so the attacker has to cover an additional 10BW if 30mm is used. With march column at 6BW this is an additional 1.7 moves, so allow an additional 2 attacking moves on the basic game, increasing the basic game length by 4 from from 16 to 20 moves.

   (Alternatively we could move the start lines 10BW closer together and both set in 11 (say 10 BW) - we will experiment).

   Currently rebasing atillery and making skirmishers for a game on Tuesday.
