I'm thinking of starting in on a 15mm army for Lasalle. It seems that 40mm by 30mm is pretty standard, but I happen to have a sack full of 40mm by 20mm bases lying around. Do y'all think that 40x20mm bases would work with 15mm?
Thanks.

You may find them a little close together but there is no reason you can't use them - BW is all that matters.
Of course if you go one rank you are good.
March attack figures will certainly help if you want a double rank. Advancing/charging ones - not so much.
Base width is the main consideration, and 40mm seems to be the standard.

Actually, its not a standard, just a recommended BW. There is no standard for Lasalle. Players can play the game with any size BW they like. The most important criterion is that you and your opponent use the same system for basing. The second most important criterion is that you like the way your figures look! (Lasalle, page 5)

Lasalle players suggest some good ideas.
I think what Trailape is meaning by standard, is it appears the a large number, and from what I have seen on the web, dare I suggest majority, for 15mm, is the 40mm frontage.
Conventions that have been held using Lasalle used 40mm frontages, but let other frontages in on grounds a few mm here nor there wont matter.
Yes there are groups playing with other base frontages around, but it appears that 40mm is becoming the norm or is moving that way.
Cheers
Thanks for the replies.
I'm considering just ordering some 40x30 bases. I'd like to use 6 figures per base, rather than 8, does anyone have any experience how this looks on 40x30?

If you go with 6 figures per base, I would recommended bases that are no bigger than 30x25 for two reasons. First reason, you wouldn't be alone as there are other gaming groups that use 6 figures per base with a BW of 30mm. Second reason, I've seen and heard players state that six figs on a BW of 40mm just doesn't look right (to sparse). They either seem to rebase their figures and use smaller bases (with 6 figs per base), or use the same 40mm bases but add two more figures and rearrange them so that there are eight figs per base.
Hope this helps.
I would also look at the figures you want to use. I do 28mm but I went for a sparser 4 figure 40mm base because some manufacturers don't close up ranks as easily (Victrix in 28s).
Cut out some card and see what looks best with the figures you are going to use.
Sparsity is in the eye of the beholder. Personally,I am thinking of 40X20 stands too but single rank for now. When I get enough painted, I can just double them up. Two Shako or Napoleons battles stands side by side is pretty close to 40mm wide (2.54cm X 1.5 which equals 38.1mm wide). I know that it is stated that basing on both sides should be the same but it seems to me if both sides occupy the same frontage, you should be fine. The side with the smaller width could just spread their stands slightly to occupy the same frontage. For close combat/melee, you would just line up stand to stand, again spreading them out. With a little imagination, it shouldn't be an issue.
While 40mm may not be the official standard, more and more people have them based to this width. DBN uses this width and there have been the Warmaster variants that use 40X20 stands as well. Personally, I find 4 figures on a 40X20 stand to be appealing. I have toyed with going to 40X15 so that I can double up on the figures in the future to get the same look I have seen in the rulebook. I do want the flexibility of being able to use the figures for other rules sets too. Towards this end, I feel that 40mm has become a great standard base width. I use 40mm for other periods such as ancients and medievals. And will use it for Renaissance and Lace Wars as well. I have not tried Sam's Might and Reason but I believe that 40mm is an acceptable base width there too?
