   Hi Lads we have been having a bit of a debate about the Merits and qualities of different armies that can be used for competitions etc...using the 2 choice option and the defender wins if the objective has not fallen rules that seem to be on the tournament circuit at the moment..

   I use a French Empire army with good results and usually play the Brits...the Austrian and Russian armies all look quite large and formidable on the table...

   I think the Brit army looks like it will up for an hard time against the Austrian and Russians ....what does everybody else think? ....so come on help an Old Grognard out give me your top 5 power armies.......oh and by the way Happy New Year to you all ....Paul

   Paul - why encourage people to take "power" armies at all? But I agree, not all armies are equal.

   I'm finding JPs Avante Guard a real handful at the moment even with Russian Grenadiers. The issue, for competition play, is those armies with Organic Reserve Cavalry.

   Hi James ....its not about encouraging power armies, I'm more interested in what the other lads on the forum feel about different armies and their compositions ....I honestly think its the armies that have large units that are the hard ones to handle .....the more I play Lasalle I am becoming to see more and more merits to the game system.

   Last nights game I used the Brits and defended against the French.... I got caught out charging my Elite large unit in line against a french attack column (Attacker halves if less than half of the unit contacts even though the froggies were caught in the middle of my unit, I should have vollied them really ..the Brits still managed a decent win so I'm not decrying the Brits....they are a very capable defensive army but need a little bit more thought that the Continetal armies.

   I might try out the French Liberation army against the Austrian Avant Garde next week ....might be a tall order but who knows ....cheers Paul

   I got bamboozled I should have read page 57 better "Enemy Covers half or Less of Your Front" I had a feeling that I had got it right ...if in doubt consult yer book!

   all in a days work I suppose ....still learning every army is a new challenge!

   Thats what makes Napoleonics and Lasalle interesting!

   BTW - the Russians don't have Large infantry units**. As i based my units on 30x30mm i added an extra 30mm "terrain" base to match [or as near as makes no difference] JPs 40x30mm bases.

   ** most of their cavalry are though

   Hi James ...I think the Austrian Avante Garde army could be a bit of a tough cookie...but with a bit of help from the good tactical/vigor generals (hopefully) ...and a mob load of conscripts and guns it might work out ....I think Mr Mustafa as put a lot of work into making the Army builder games as equal as possible .....now just got to decide whether I would like to Attack or defend?

   I'm working towards my Guards Division next and some Polish Guard Lancers I cannot really have a French army with the Guard options can I? ...

   no probs about the game though James ....cannot play Naps without a crack at the Russians:)
