I'm looking to substitute a "Blown Cavalry" marker instead of the usual winning Cavalry take one DISR. Blown is treated exactly the same as a DISR except it doesn't count towards breaking and is recovered automatically by not moving during a Activity phase. Very similar to the rules as is but I feel my victorious cavalry would be treated differently to the defeated.

Hi
I think that DISR is a combination of losses and disorder. Your enemy did suffered disorder and losses and it is blown. The same can be said from your victorious cavalry. The main difference is that they have fallen back whereas you have advanced, but both must to recover in the same way I think....

Hi well this brings up the question that raised my eye brows about melees. If your infantry and u win u don't take loses which doesn't seem realistic. Sometimes u can take more loses than the retreater. but still take the ground.I mean all par-takers in the melee should have a chance of taking heavy, mediun, light, or no loses.
cheers
And I still like the idea of cavalry encouraged to rest there horses after a charge.

Yes, but isn't the cavalry encouraged to rest their horses after taking an automatic DISR after combat?

Yes you are and its twice as hard to recover if you move but the standing still has much more resty feel to it. :o)

As a home rule if it fits your likes it will be a good rule, but I would advice against that distinction.
First because it adds the kind of exception that differences a 2 hour/battle ruleset from a 8 hours/battle one.Secondly because I feel that a "blown" cavalry unit not only should depict horses needing rest but also extreme disorder after a charge, as DISR are not casualties (as we can recover DISR) I think it fits that state quite right.
Recovering from a charge should include not only not moving but realigning, and I d can“t see why it should be made easier for cavalry than for infantry.
