Hey, quick question and I apologize if this one has been covered before. So on Page 31 of LaSalle it mentions that an irregular unit cannot charge a regular unit if one of them is in the open. Does this restriction apply for the end location of a charge or the starting location? I.E. can my unit of irregular Grenzers holding the treeline charge out into the open against a battered unit of regular infantry, or must they wait until the regular troops are foolish enough to enter the woods to try and root them out and then charge them while both units are in the woods?

The latter.

In a related question, what if the regulars are at the edge of the woods, or with a rough field, against the wall on the open side. Can grenzers in the woods / field charge them?

If both are "in" rough terrain, as defined by the book, then Yes, an irregular Grenz unit could charge.

What if the regulars are in the open side though, right on the edge of the rough terrain? Or if the regulars are right at the edge of woods inside, and the grenz are outside - can they charge at the regulars then?

I'm not sure I understand. Either you're "in" the Rough, or you aren't.
If the Grenz aren't, then they aren't.
