Dear all experienced Lasallians
This is certainly a very basic question and I feel embarassed making it.
Given a situation in which a defending unit fights against two attacking units at the same time, do the two attackers add up their combat dice and just one resolutions will ensue or each clash is resolved separately (of course factoring in all the relevant modifiers and there is still scope for the second one after the resolution of the first)?
Thank you so much

Yes, the two attackers add their dice together against one defender.

THANKS Sam .
the situation we had at the club was one big austrian square vs one infantry and one cavalry unit(French as usual :)).
WAs the ONLY melee on the table.
Now cause the French as the initiative (if it won it or from the optionl rules)and he can not choose to start for second (give the initiative), he need to chose ONE defending unit and so the other unit will be used only to halve the dices of the austrian, isn't it?
If so this is case where is better do dont have the initiative :)
Thanks for your patience

Not having the book handy you'll have to forgive me if I'm in error, but I believe the attacker and defender roll off to determine in which order any melee combats will be resolved, unless either commander has the Superior Commander rule, in which case they are allowed to decide. The choice of combat order is always made by picking a defending unit, in this instance a defender being the unit charged in the previous round, not the nominal defender chosen at the beginning of the match. That defending unit will fight against all attacking units that have made contact with it.
In your specific instance, of a square being charged by a mixed force of infantry and cavalry, the Austrians would halve their combat die because they would be fighting against the French infantry while in square. The French, assuming both the cavalry and the infantry have made contact in such a way that the Austrians cover more than half of their frontage, would have full combat dice, adding any modifiers for esprit, lances, etc. and subtracting any modifiers for bad terrain and the like, and would pool all the dice from both the cavalry and the infantry against the poor beleaguered Austrians with their halved die.

Thanks Grinner,
I read more carefully the rules on page 53 where there is the definition of "defender", and on page 54 where you chose the defending ( that was confuse me, and maybe to much dbx virus :)))
At the end it means that the attacker(the player that he moved in to contact in his turn ) he will choice one unit of the other player(defending unit).Posted 1 year ago #
