We've got a problem. We use 40mmx40mm basing for our Cavalry and our artillery but 30mmx25mm for our infantry (General de Brigade basically). We play using 40mm BW. Thinking about using 40mm wide sabot for our infantry that is already completed but for new units, what do others think about 6 figures of infantry per base?

I prefer 8 figs to a 40mm x 30mm base for the infanrty, but to me 6 figs per base is fine as well. Especially as they would be 6 figs per 30mm x 25mm base 'stretched' to 40mm wide. Regardless of the number of figs per base I think it is important to have the same frontage for all three arms.

I actually put four figures on a 40mm x 15mm base, single-ranked, and then use two bases to make a single Lasalle base. This basing also allows me to use my armies for several of the other rules that I occasionally play.

I use 6 figs to a 40 x 30 base for inf and they look absolutely fine, I use 3 figs per 40 x 30 base for cav, and a gun an 3 crew on a 40 x 40 for artillery.
my opponent uses 6 figs on 40 x 30 for infantry, 2 figs to a 40x 30 for cav and a gun and 2 crew to a 40 x 40 for artillery.
the rules state bw is the important consistent feature of these rules not the number of figures. the 8 figure illustration is merely a guide.
our game a perfectly enjoyable and play to the book as the bases are the same size in each army.
