I've been thinking about F&IW for a while now and/or AWI
What range of figures do people recommend in 28mm (i'm doing this as a skirmish game). I'd be particularly interested in hard plastics as i understand that some products are about to hit the market if they haven't already [i've been trying not to look!]

Well for American Revolution you can't really go past the Perry's stuff in 28mm...
and for F&IW which is my preferred option?

Hi James ....Checkout the 18mm Bluemoon FIW and AWI range excellent mini's and can be ordered for from Old glory uk (AB Quality)....all the lads I know are doing AWI in 18mm (Bluemoon, Peter Pig) and the Seven Years War in 10mm for a bit of a change (Pendraken)

I'm salivating over doing F&IW and AWI as well and am waiting the upcoming plastic releases from Perry to get started on this project. I see that Front Rank also do 28mm F&IW and AWI 28mm figs as well.
Check out Conquest Miniatures for a huge range of excellent Indian miniatures and a good range of French and British irregular and regular troops. The models are very nice.

James - some of the Perry's American Revolution stuff may be usable, as may some of the Foundry range... I've generally thought Redoubt may be the next best - although their figures are a little large sometimes (similar to Front Rank); I have some of the ACW stuff, and used to have some Confederation of the Rhine Nappies (originally painted by Roly Hermans of Arteis/Dressing The Lines fame)... They are/were all notably bigger than Perrys, Foundry, etc... Redoubt quality however is a bit better than OG IMO - there's more consistency and none of those dreadful square hands or heads... Dixon also do a F&IW range - and many people rate them highly - but personally every time I've bought Dixon stuff about a third of the figures have looked awful... And size wise they are like Redoubt & Front Rank, with some suffering from balloon heads...
Front Rank chaps are very large and only really mix with Redoubt.
@McBeth has mentioned Conquest above (I haven't seen them in person but believe they are in the Perry/Foundry/OG size range); and there is also Galloping Major range for some unique/personality types to add variety - some of the figs are outstanding others less so - but a few packs mixed in with another brand could give a really nice variety...
One of the fellers down here brought some of the Conquest Indians so we can play some Sharp Practice (once I paint up some French regulars :) ) the Conquest minis are fantastic in person - well recommended! they are slightly skinner that Perry but not majorly so.
Galloping Major's quality does vary, but I think over all they look nice.
