Assume I am using the Army Builder to construct a French Force. My opponent and I have agreed to use a core unit, an organic unit, and a reserve unit to build our forces. I choose French Guard infantry for my core unit and add another French infantry unit and an Allied Polish cavalry brigade. Can all three units start on the board by counting the Polish brigade as the "reserve" unit and following the rule that all Allied forces start on the board or is an Allied brigade always counted as an "organic" unit?

Bottom of page 109: "For French infantry division, an allied Polish, Saxon, or Westphalian cavalry brigade is a Reserve choice, and therefore must enter as a reinforce ment. For French Guard division, these allied brigades may start on board".
My "cheatin' ways" go only so far!

I guess the wording is what is causing me some difficulty. Does "these allied brigades may start on the board" mean that with a core Guard unit the allied force may be chosen as an "organic" unit and start on the board or does that wording mean that even if chosen as the "reserve" unit they may still start on the board?

First of all, you choose a Core, and then a number of Support Brigades. Period. Whether you then choose an Allied brigade or a Reserve, or an Organic, is up to you. It's not set beforehand.
Second, as per p.109, the Allied Polish, Saxon, or Westphalian brigades may start on-board for a French Guard army list. It's not an "organic" support choice. It's an allied brigade. The special rule, however, allows you to start it on-board, with a Guard core.
