Two small Hussar units, two small Chasseurs, one horse BTY.
horse BTY or light horse BTY?
horsey Bty.
Cromojaro means MEDIUM GUN Horse Bty or a LIGHT GUN Horse Bty I think... ;-)
Not "Light Horses"...
Medium horse battery or light horse battery?
Good question and it all depends on if your battery has 4lb guns or 6lb guns. Artillery units are grouped into three weights; Light (3lb to 4lb), Medium (6lb to 9lb), and Heavy (representing the 12lb cannon). So a little research should tell you if you would have Light or Medium. What year is your pick up game for example? The original question was in regards to the Empire theatre so the year would be from 1808 to 1812. This makes it a little interesting because the French were phasing out the 4lb cannon in their horse batteries during that time. In 1808, horse batteries would be equipped with 4lb cannon, but by 1812, most if not all horse batteries would have been equipped with larger 6lb cannon.
There is no such thing as a "Medium Horse BTY." The Composition says "Horse BTY." And the composition of a Horse BTY is defined on p.109. It has 2 Medium guns and 1 Howitzer.
Good point Sam. To keep with the Lasalle Unit Names, change what I said above from "Medium horse battery or light horse battery?" to "Horse battery or light horse battery?".
So, if your French battery has 4lb cannon, its a Light Horse BTY. And if your French battery has 6lb cannon, its a Horse BTY. One or the other would be more probable depending on the year within the Empire theatre you select as a date for your AB game.
Ok, but what french unit uses the Light Horse BTY, defined in page 109? I (mistakenly) supposed that was the Light Cavalry Brigade.

Even though the 4lb was being replaced by the 6lb, it didn't happen overnight, so for the earlier theatres of war the French player(s) can use a Light Horse BTY in place of a Horse BTY for their cavalry brigades. This should be agreed upon by all players before setup.
Why would you? For an AB Game... ;-)
Why would you? For an AB Game... ;-)
That's a good question, because why downgrade, right?
I guess there could be several reasons, but maybe
1) it is a learning game and the more experienced player decides to take Light Horse BTY's
2) the players want to be more "historical" and use the appropriate BTY's
3) the players have 4lb cannon miniatures and want to play them as such
4) they just want to do something different
or
5) they have their own reasons.
Yep - but then of course it 'unbalances' the AB List... :-)

Yes, but also see reason #1 above.
