Hello, I am recent to the Laselle universe but have painted up 2 divisions worth of French Infantry (12 BN's) and enough support options( 14 regiments Cavalry) to satisfy almost any mix of troops. My question to the forum is has any other French army users attempted the classic Ordre Mixte formation?

I understand you make reference to represent le ordre mixte as a multi-unit formation using two columns and a line between them as:

1 1 3 3(each number or letter represent a base , I use normal 4 base units labelled 1 to 3 for your units and letters for enemies)
I found it subpar (would not discuss historicity, but playing effectivenesss) against enemy infantry , not intrinsically a bad option but massed columns is a sounder option if you plan to attack to the ballonet and multiple lines seems sounder to defend.
By massing columns you maximize the number of bases who would fight in the ensuing melee (giving the enemy doesn´t fall back) . Note you can NOT atack a single enemy unit line with your three units (even if they are a big unit propably some of your column wil be affected by “enemy less than half front”)

1 1 2 2 3 3Even for firing purposes , remenber you only can shoot what is in your direct front , the firepower (against a single line enemy) is basically the same.
For defense (against infantry) I would advice two consecutive lines , as with experienced units –and probably a +1 Vigor subcommander- you can (dice gods allowing) fall back with the frontal one and firing with the second

3 3 3 3Defending against enemy cavalry –if yours is not at hand- ordre mixte can be useful by reducing your frontage over the terrain forcing the enemy to charge in non-desirable ways –as being reduced to less than ½ frontage- , and diluting combined arms bonuses

Thank you for the tips, I always have difficulty imagining the tactics from a rules perspective and not a historical one.
