   I'm almost there with my Perry French.

   8 x Battalions of French infantry with Foot Artillery & 2 x Large Cuirass Squadrons with Horse Artillery

   I've used the Perry bases that come with the plastic box sets.

   Now my infantry battalions are 6 bases (6 men to a base) and i'd like to keep them as 6 bases rather than the usual four, just for the look. My cavalry 6 bases; 3 horses per base (they may be a bit small for Large units if i'm using 6 x bases for regular infantry)

   So with that in mind, would an 8' x 6' table be better rather than the usual 6x4?

   Are there any other amendments i need to make to the rules to take into account the extra bases i'm using

   Just the artillery to paint; i'll post photos when they're all done

   No you just use the Base Width of the calvary and infantry which should be the same. for the distance measurements. one of the things which make the rules great.All scales can use the rules. Not too sure why you are using more bases ? your just using the large bases for infantry and cavalry ?

   When you plan your base size if your going to play with other people best to find out whats popular in your area for that scale.

   IF u have the room bigger is better. but 6x4 would be ok not much room for manauver but ok. If u can easily go bigger go bigger.

   Thanks - i suppose i'm thinking 6 x bases (36 men) per battalion just looks better, to me, than 4 bases/24 men

   i could always make the cavalry 8 x bases (24 figs) to represent Large squadrons [grin]

   No you can't add bases. That represents the amount of hits the battallion takes. Changing that will throw out all the dice odds and the balance of play.
   You could possibly double the amount of bases for every thing .INf cav art and call 2 bases 1 base. Keeping 2 bases together and thats your base with. But what u do for one unit u have to do for all the units. And yes u would need a large table because your doubling the base width and lots of soldiers. Are u in a club. You should join one and do what there doing.

   If u have your hearts set on big units and are willing to pay the price i would do 4 men on perrys 45mm base twice adding them together and making them one unit. 2 horse on the 45mm adding together then you base widths are around 4 inches.

   Hi. Thanks for coming back.

   I am part of a couple of gaming groups ("Maelstrom"/Mansfield & Sheffield, UK). There's a group of us with 28mm armies. My French is one of the smaller armies [gulp]. We have 3 x French, 2 x Brits and 1 x Austrians [with a Russian army in the planning stage]

   I wouldn't be inclined to alter the basic rules at all i.e. number of hits. All i was thinking was to increase the basic size of the unit(s) and possibly use a larger table.

   Pure aesthetics - nothing more. That and the others in my group are used to using larger units and prefer a certain alternative Rule Set! I'm trying to bang the drum for LaSalle but not reinvent the wheel for the others (too much)

   There's a seperate group of us with 15mm armies and we (i have Russians, obviously) use LaSalle with the usual 4 x bases standard etc

   Ok well im confused . LOL.

   ok well u have to have 4 units or things will become uneven. that is multiples of 4.
   There is a way to increase the amount of men per unit without making new base sizes which is to double or triple the amount of bases per unit

   So in your case you could have 2 bases of six men making 1 unit. this will mean u have 8 bases of 6 men or 48 men per battalion or 8 bases per battalion = 4 units
   YOu have to make the frontages for the Infantry cavalry and artillery the same. this will be your base width for the rules.

   We use 2" stands for our 28's...we find that a 8x5 table works well...5' width is the min for 2" bases....

   PR - sorry, i'm not sure what's difficult to understand.

   Basic rules remain unaltered except:

   a. we us an 8' table when available
   b. 6 bases for a standard infantry battalion etc [usual number of shots/hits cause it to break ie nothing changes from the RB except the size of the unit]

   Pure aesthetics, nothing else.

   Oh, i should mention that this is with a like minded crowd who like to put more toys out on the table, not less. If i was playing in a 28mm comp or someone i hadn't played before then of course i'd use the standard 4 x bases system

   In 28mm has anybody tried 2" wide bases as follows: cavalry 2 figures on a 2" square base, infantry three figures on a 2" by 1" rectangle. Roughly a 1:50 figure scale.

    Ian - Here in NZ (almost) everyone is going 50mm x 50mm (which is roughly 2" x 2") as per the rulebook - either 2 Mounted or 6 Foot per base (foot 2 deep). And you can usually fit guns on without needing a longer base (just). In 1/72nd Plastics you can get 3 Mounted & 8 Foot per base. I assume you are planning 2 ranks of bases for the foot (so 8 or 12 of 2" x 1" per unit), otherwise your Infantry will look very sparse?     Borodino - bit late but all you need to do is increase the figures per base - do 4 larger bases of 8-10 figs per base - but any large units are going to be pretty huge at 48 figs if 36 figs is your normal small unit... :-)
