Evening everyone,
Hi does anyone have any feedback on how many support choices they use per core option for an enjoyable manageable game and why so?
Many thanks advance, regards Rex

Hi Rex,
Here in the winter-free north, the consensus (well ok, Roundie "said" and Cam agreed - or vice-versa) is that core and one support will be the right size for a 2 - 2.5 hour comp game.
This is certainly the size I am aiming at for new armies. Ideally I will be building Core, 2x Organic and 2x Reserve. Where appropriate Allies will also be added.
For comps you want a frill-free army list - choice confuses only you. For pick-up and club games variety is the spice of life.
Looking at the piks of your 6mm (many thanks for the email - very nice!) you have things well under control!
:-)
John
We are going with one core and one support.
Thanks dude I'll be posting a link to the pics in a couple of days when Pete posts the Project blurb on his Baccus site.
Makes sense with what your building too lots of choice for painting and gaming flavour as the mood chooses. Must admit I'm thinking of moving back to 15's for Lasalle pure and leave my 6's for the big piccie stuff.
Take care and have a great week, regards Rex
Geez Rex, don't give up on the 6mm for Lasalle just yet. Nothing like a 96 figs to a battalion. I can understand the shift to the 15mm scale though. You can see the detail at that point.
Gets expensive fast in 15mm though especially if you are looking at AB. I costed out a core list of 6 battalions to about 240 NZD.
Anyway back on track. I was looking at this today. I would be looking at the core list and 1 support option for a standard club evening. If I was to do a larger game probably 2 support choices.
I wouldn't go over that though.
I think one support would at a lot of variety for most games. For multiple players, adding more support would work well.
Generally, our little group in Edmonton plays with core plus one support. However, we are in the midst of a game with core plus two support choices, one of which had to be organic. The French are fielding a line infantry division plus an organic light cavalry "brigade" and an Allied Italian "brigade". The impertinent Russians also took an infantry division and chose to field a Grenadier "brigade" and a jager "brigade". I suspect the absence of cavalry will lead to dire times for the Russians as much of their infantry is more or less "pinned" by the cavalry allowing the French to concentrate against the weakest part of the Russian line. Time will tell as we had to end our first evening's combat at turn 10. To accommodate the extra support we increased table size to 8'x6' and the number of turns to 22.

thid is what we tend to do
Thanks for the feedback guys most interesting and infrorative.
Russell nah don't worry I'm still keen on the 6mm but also want to see Lasalle take off in NZ and to be fair the greater majority of gamers here would buy and use 15's for Nap's on a competitive basis, with 28's being used within clubs and on a social basis. Same with 6mm.
As for costs as nice as AB are yes I agree they cost so my personal favourites are Old Glory 15's from the US, nice, well presented, paint up very nice and when brough in bulk very affordable as they always have discounts in place so fo us the savings eliminate the costs of shipping and you get more bang for you buck. I also personally prefer them for their animation and variety then when combined with the Fighting 15's flags from the Uk superb, however of course that is a personal choice and Nick at Eureka has done a brilliant job of making the AB's accessible and easy to buy in the ready made unit packs for Lasalle so thats cool to.
Well better go catch ya, cheers Rex
2 for a more balanced game and more fun.
1 for a quick game.
I'm still not sure on allowing so much Cavalry.
Our'standard' game is 2 supports and we still manage to whip through games 2-3 hours. Having trouble getting a win out of the defending 1815 Brits at the moment though when the french take an organic light cav and then reserve dragoons ... but getting there!
