Hi
I am designing my first Lasalle learning game, so the following question would seems a silly one: it is useful to use unit labels?

Rafa

Not at all - whatever helps you remember which unit is which is a good thing. I have it a bit easier with my Austrian avant-garde - each unit has a different uniform (Hungarian and German infantry, the latter with helmets or with shako; grenz in brown coat and white coat, jagers, hussars, uhlans...)

I base on metal bases and use generic magnetic labels (1/1, 1/2 etc) and it helps a lot - people get lost easily. It's especially good when you do stand replacement with limbers etc.

Nice idea Rafa, does anyone have a nice tidy way to label units, even better would be something that is interchangeable. For Lasalle in my playtest, I have been using campaign coated French for the veterans and freshly blue coated figures for the conscrips. I am still however having to pick up the command stand to see if it is the the 1 or 2nd battalion etc..

Hey Nick, I've been checking in on your blog fairly regularly and haven't seen any new posts. How's that avant-garde army coming along? Are you going to post some new pics soon?
Cheers,
Peter

I'm working on it Peteywa. :)
I've been marking papers and exams for the last couple of weeks, so haven't made much progress, but I'm going to do a review of Lasalle sometime soon, and then get back into painting again.

Definetly not a silly question, I plan to label my bases. This will help two fold. You can identify your unis much faster especially if you have more than one sub-commander and Infantry Brigade. Also you will be able to write up a roser sheet as well.
My other thought is that you can make the labels to suit a particular Division.
At the end of the day for me, I plan to play lasalle in 6mm, and all those French line look the same and in the middle of the game, especially when a unit suffers disruption points labels will help me remember which units have been affected.

Playing our first game tomorrow...all units labeled...used 2/3"x 1 3/4" return mail labels (all my 28mm figs are on 2" stands) for laser printers...color coded each label as to the command the unit belongs to so they could easily be identified...faron

Hi
I plan to use Napoleon's Battles-style labels with two text lines, the first displaying the name of the unit and the second its characteristics according to the following coding:Infantry: Esprit/Discipline/Skirmish x/x/SKx[/Additional]
Cavalry: Esprit/Discipline x/x[/Additional/Additional/...]
Coded letters:
Esprit V : Valiant Discipline : E : Experienced
R : Reliable A : Amateur
S : Shaky I : Irregular
Additional: G : Guard (for all)
Sh : Shock (for cavalry only)
Pu : Pursuit (for cavalry only)
Ln : Lancers (for cavalry only)Artillery: Weight x
Coded letters:
Weight H : Heavy
M : Medium
L : Light
Hw : HowitzerFor example: The French 3/24th Légêre Reliable/Amateur/SK2 will have
3/24th Légêre
R/A/SK2
The French 13th Hussars, Reliable/Experienced/Pursuit
13th Hussars
R/E/PuAny comments?

what size of stickers are these Rafa and where do you attach them to the unit.

The labels are 2.3 cm width and 1.5 cm height. The label is folded by half (in a L shape) and the part inferior of the 'L' is adhered to the botom of the wargaming base with sticky tape.

Thanks Rafa, please put a photo on your blog if possible, and I presume that the sticker goes on the unit command base only.
Thanks

Actually I got it Rafa, by looking at your website and old scenarios, now I see what you mean by the L. Nice plan.
Many thanks,

My english is not so good to explain it.... but a picture is worth of one thousand words!Posted 2 years ago # -
My bases will be 2"x1¼", so I made some graphics of standard map symbols that will print out on labels that size. I also tailored the colors for the different nationalities. Here is a Prussian Cavalry label:
As you can see, there is plenty of room to add each unit's name, strength, etc. (This is essentially a template.) There is an added benefit. I am a slow painter, so until I get enough figures done, I can practice with just the bases---- think miniatures meets board game. (Plus I can see if I like playing Sweden before jumping all the way in.)
Here is what I have come up with so far. I may have to add KGL and Dutch-Belgian.
