Hi
Yes, I've played solo (I've also played card driven games). Like all solo gaming you have to just have a split personality and play both sides as well as you can. What does seem good (I've only played once so far) is that in Lasalle you're not having to make some decisions like opportunity firing/charges, issuing morale challenges etc.
I think the restricted number of turns and reserves having to dice to arrive could create some interesting situations that you won't have complete control over.
I became a little disillussioned with some card driven games because of the scale. At the same tactical level that Lasalle represents, I could see no realistic reason why individual batallions would do nothing even though they would be aware of most things that were happening in their sector of the battlefield. This sort of lack of control/confusion is best represented at the grand tactical level. Therefore, I don't think the greater control you have over your units in Lasalle is in any way unrealistic or unwelcome.
It seems to me that the secret of solo wargaming enjoyment is the unpredictable initial deployment and a scenario rather than just a "line'em up" game.
Kevin.
