Lasalle tournament in Ulm - with a guided tour to the battlefield

Hi All,

I've watched the discussion about the Lasalle-tournament in New Zealand with great interest and I'm thinking about organizing a 2-day tournament (28mm scale) next year in Ulm, Germany.

As Ulm is quite meningful for the Naploeonic Era it would be adequate to link the event with a guided tour to the battlefield in order to experience first hand where Mack was beaten.

I'd like to get a feeling what size the event should be (and in which language the battlefield-visit should be organized), so I'm asking you your opinion: Without any comittment - would you be interested to participate at such an event in Ulm next year?

Great idea. I wish I could attned this or that we'd see more of these type events done in the US (for ACW and AWI).

I ran a Flames of War tournament once that included a Friday afternoon tour of the US Army's Patton Museum of Armor and Cavalry conducted by the US Army's Armor & Cavalry Historian. That went over pretty well.

It's unlikley that a trip to Germany is a possibility coming from the US, but I'd do my best to make it if I lived anywhere in Europe.

This does sound good but like Andrew my scale is 15/18mm, would you consider doing both scales?

Hi,

thank you for your kind words. Well, we will try the event in 28mm first and see how much response we get. With the Perries and their beautiful new miniatures there is much interest in 28mm in Germany. Yet we will see, maybe we will also organize an event in 15mm.

Well, after several long discussians in two German blogs we came to the idea to open the event for 15mm. That way there would be a common battlefield-walk for all participiants (I'll make sure the guided tour is in English provided there is interest from forum members) and common tournament rules, but two seperate tournaments - one in 15mm and one in 28mm. What do you think?

the date depends on the availability of our gaming location in Ulm. I think I'll be able to define the exact date nect month, but it will probably be in May or June 2012. I'll write it here as soon as I have it. Thank you for your interest, it would be great if you would join us!
