Just witnessed a game between a Russian army with a Core, organic and reserve....4 five gun batteries...ouch How do the French or any other army contend with that? ....when I have read the Lasalle army builder for the Russians, Sam states that the Russians were out shot by the French even with less guns! ...the rules don't seem to reflect this?

One of our players, Barry Katz, has a French army that's very "horsey," and he almost always attacks. He's become a past-master at the art of using his batteries for counterbattery fire to just harass defending artillery enough to force them to limber. In fact, that's one reason that rule exists: I wanted counterbattery fire not to be decisive, but rather to represent the annoyance and distraction of a gun crew coming under fire. Russian batteries, regardless of their size, still need only three hits to force them to limber.
Other than that, if you're the attacker, then try to place the Objective with an eye toward the kind of covering terrain you might have as you approach!
Cheers Sam ....I must admit that was the option I was looking at...the next game I will be using French Empire core, Polish lancer brigade or Light cav brigade organic and Lancer brigade reserve......I wanted to use 1 core and 2 support choices ie 2 organic but my Russian opponent wants us both to use Core,organic and reserve
