i am confused with the oblique move.
may a unit with a movement allowace of 4BW that wants to make an oblique move, move 4BW(all its move) digonally up to 45degrees or it may move up to 2BW diagonally and 2BW straight forward?

What it means is that you move 2BW sideways then 2BW forwards. You can break this down into:
1BW sideway,
1BW fwd,
1BW sideway,
1BW fwd.It allows bases to be moved at a true 45 degrees accurately.

Are you sure about this - it means the unit actually moves 2.8 BW rather than 4.
It makes sense as oblique is tricky - perhaps Sam could confirm?

You simply point the measurement stick at the angle you want (up to 45 degrees) and go however many BW. I probably should not have offended the ghost of Pythagoras by short-handing it as "1 BW sideways and 1BW forward, etc."

Only experience troops though. The peninsular French v Spanish battle I fought was interesting as the experience French and Spanish were able to out maneuver their less experienced brothers in arms.

Yes i felt it was overexplained a wee bit. Especially for those of us (like me) who cant do geometry.

I completely misread this because of the description in the rulebook. I was asked for a ruling on it a couple of nights ago and got it wrong.........Sorry Nigel and James, Sam has clarified this extremely well in this thread.
Great thing the rules questions forums. Sorts out many things that can/have happened. Once again thanks to Sam for answering most of these queries as well.

Good spot Trev - i'd forgotten that this had been ruled on. That'll show me for referring to O'level Math in our last game [grin]
