When you place reinforcements you only have 4BW of space, which I realised during a game last night means you can't place large units in column. Is there a reason for this? Obviously you can place them at an angle but that's not always the best way to deploy troops ;)
Placing Reserves

That would depend on base size. A 1 and 1/2 inch by 1 inch base gives a 6 inch depth for reinforcements (4x1.5 = 6). That would be just enough for a large unit to be deployed in column.
Unfortunately, my copy of Lasalle is at home. Isn't there some mention of a 3:2 Width:Depth ratio as the recommended base size? That should allow for sufficient room.
I would think that if one is using other than the recommended base (Blasphemer!) a simple house rule of setting the last unit on the table edge and placing all others forward of that, in column, would be adequate to the purpose.
Perhaps, though, I have missed something.

For most people base depth isn't as great as width, so six base depths is usually about 4BW, but if not, you can place them at a slight angle, and they'll fit.
Actually this came up in our game last week, and that's why the Errata shows a change for 17 January: I added a note about this to the "Clarifications" section.

well 6x30mm is still 20mm deeper than the 4BW deployment zone. I don't think deploying at an angle is necessarily that big a deal though (if coming on board pointing the right way is important, you're probably not going to be in march formation).

The angle you get if you try and fit a large unit in column inside 4BW (we are using 15mm, 40 x 30 bases) is quite a bit - about 45 degrees. It just seems a bit weird to do this when you simply want to enter the board in column pointed in the right direction.

We could always use a house rule - have them coming on in column, but if the last base or so doesn't fit in, place it next to the column so that we know it's actually behind it.

That sounds like a good idea.
