when you win your reserve brigade dice roll, do you have to declare where they are coming on in that same status phase, or even place them that phase?
If not, and they come on during your next turn, and given the placement restrictions set out in the rules, are they then also able to move normally that activation phase?

No, you don't have to pre-declare their location.
They arrive in your Status Phase, so there is no possibility for them to arrive and move in the same turn.

That's certainly how I understand it (and have been taught) - and is what I presumed Sam meant by "They arrive in your Status Phase, so there is no possibility for them to arrive and move in the same turn".
I dont have my book at work but if my memory is working they have to be deployed within 4 BW of the edge, so you could deploy them in square.

The rules specifically exclude squares and deployed artillery (along wih coming on within the deployment area, but no more than 4BW in, and no closer than 4BW to any enemy unit - which his sensible, as it stops you throwing such a unit into 'near the enemy' immediately before its move) - we found that bit alright.
We didn't see the bit about placing in the status phase though, just rolling for arrival in the status phase - not necessarily the same thing.

The list of actions on the first page of the Status section, do say "Enter Reinforcements", which I took to be clear enough you deploy them on table at this stage.
