Can you slpit up an organic support unit of 4 lt cav units and give one unit of cav to the base infantry unit. Or do the 4 cav have to stay together?

According to page 95 under Generate the Subcommanders, it talks about assigning core units to your subcommanders. However, it indicates that a support brigade is already a force. So, I guess the answer is no, you can't detach one of the support units and give it to another core subcommander.

But your High commander could take one over, I think.

Actually, according to page 20, any unit within the command range of the overall commander is in command, so you could 'detach' as many support units as you wish, if you keep them near your commander.
