Discuss the Honour system.

   The rules seem to focus on the British rifle units, i.e. the 95th rifles. However, other nationalities had units armed with rifles as well, the Austrian Jaeger Bns, 1st and 2nd KGL, and Prussian Schuetzen Bns.

   So here's my question. Should those units be allowed to use rifle volleys when deployed as regulars as well?

   I know this can be covered under house/scenario rules but are those units of a quality that would allow them to use rifle volleys historicaly? Or is that something that should be restricted to the 95th based on their training and high discipline?

   It would probably have to be a house rule, unless you post to the wiki and it gets adopted as an official amendment.

   I have been wondering about this myself, particularly in regards to Austrian Jäger battalions. What is the historical reason for them not being rifle-armed in Lasalle? Were not many units actually armed with rifles? Or was there just a general shortage of rifles among Austrian Jäger battalions, i.e., were they supposed to be armed with rifles, but logistical realities often precluded this?

   G'day,
   Prussian Jagers from the Conquest period can also shoot volleys.
   Be that as it may, I have wondered about that myself. I can think of only 2 reasons, the first that Austrian Jagers were never recorded as firing this way or were not trained to fire in rifle volleys (unlikely I think).
   The other reason is possibly one of fire control. If said Jagers were part of a firing line and opened up at rifle range, perhaps there was a real danger of other Line battalions 'joining in' and firing at an ineffectual range and destroying any chance of controlled volleys?
   I don't know the answer, but that's all I can come up with.

   The instructions for Prussian Jagers were to fight only in open order ideally from the cover because of the characteristics of their rifles (i.e. riflemen didn't fire volleys but fought as irregulars).
   EDIT: Doh - of course you are writing about in the Lasalle rules where rifles do fire close order volleys!

   IIRC only a third of the troops in an Austrian Jager battalion were armed with rifles.

   Ahh, yes, the 1/3 Austrian rifle malarkey rings a bell, forgot about that.
   And yes, the Conquest Prussians was referring to the rules.
