   I started painting 6 infantry units for a French army. In an effort to maximize my basing flexibility, I based them "Warhammer Style." This will give me a 40x40mm base for Lasalle and I could also do Rank & File (Crusader) as well as go up to 60mm for a local gaming group and their rules.

   In keeping with the "Warhammer Basing" I would like to do the cavalry on 25x50mm bases, doubled up for a 50x50 Lasalle base. Is the dissimilar Inf/Cav basing a problem? I could mount the Cav (which will be Perry) on 20mm frontage but some have said the Perry Cav doesn't rank well on 20mm frontage (strange, since that is what basing they use)

   The infantry is Perry Plastics dipped using Army Painter. Single mounted on 20x20 bases.

   Hi General,

   I can't speak to the issue of dissimilar frontages, but can confirm that 28mm Perry cavalry mount just fine on a 20mm frontage. I have a DBM army of Perry Ghulam and Turcoman cavalry, all based 3 to a 60mm wide base, and have had no issues.

   Nice painting.

   All my 28mm stuff and many others around here is all 40mm Infantry and 50mm Cav, so sounds fine to me! I guess whatever conforms to the local scene and has the same BW to opponents.

   Obviously it would be best if everything was on the same sized stand...for informal "in club" games, i doubt it would be a huge issue...there may be the odd occasion where the point of contact and other situations are complicated by the difference in mounting, but it can probably be handled just fine among friendly players...

   I doubt anyone would mind as it makes it harder for the wider based stuff due to the 1/2 frontage negatives etc.

   Will be interesting if there are ever comps as to which basing width is required though.

   Otherdave: I haven't bought the Perry Cav yet, it is good to hear things may work. As a "reward", I will start some Cav after a bit more infantry. If the Perrys do rank on 20mm frontage, I will go with that since Litko can make some Size Extender Donut bases to get to 25x50 if I ever need to.

   Rich Jones: It will be interesting indeed to see what any official (read tournament) basing shakes out to be. For 25mm figures, I'll bet its 50mm for Infantry and Cav and I could Sabot the 40mm bases I'd have to 50mm with no problem.

   Yup, I like the 40mm idea even for Cav, that way the 4x6 table size still works (or, shall I say: 32x48 BW table size?).

   I have based my 15mm figs for Napoleon's Battles (3/4" x 1" infantry and 1" x 2" cavalry-rebasing to 1"x1" and placed on a 1v2 sabot for NB) and can use them based like that for Shako II, Age of Eagles etc. I have magnetized the bases and have 3" x 3" sabots for Grande Armee, and now for Lasalle I am using 1" x 2" (25mm x 50mm) sabots using 2 NB Infantry stands per Lasalle base and two 1"x1" cav bases. This leaves a little space on the infantry sabot base, but it looks fine to me. This way my cav and infantry bases have the same frontage (2 inches).
   Competition gaming is definitely going to be a problem, although I have never copeted in mini tournies. If my basing scheme conforms, then maybe I might, if not, I am adding to both of my French and Austrian Armies. We'll see where that goes.
