This is a question about sub-commanders once forces are on the table:
Are forces always meant to be commanded by their force sub-commander for the duration of the game, or is simply being within any sub-commanders radius acceptable?

They stay with their own subcommander, John. :)
But a unit may stray from its subcommander's command radius as long as it's still in the radius of the commanding officer, yeah?
Weird, an all-Toronto thread...
And yes Dave, he can still be in command if he's strayed outside his subcom's radius, but is still within his commander's radius.
Just to keep the all-Toronto thread going...
Last night this situation came up:
British Unit A charged French Unit X under the command of a Poor Sub-Commander.
French Unit Y countercharged Unit A and was under the command of a (now I forget the term) "good" Sub-Commander.
During the combat, British Unit A's player makes his opponent use his Poor rating. Since French Unit Y is under command of a "good" Sub-Commander, he chooses to use his bonus. So basically they are both rolling 4+ to hit in combat.
Is that allowed even though both Sub-Commanders are on the same side (both French in this case)? We weren't sure but we went with it.
Sorry, I'm from Denver, not Toronto. But I visited Toronto before. Does that count? ;)
I think I can picture the set-up you're talking about here.
My understanding is that once a unit is assigned to a subcommander at the start of the game, thats the only commander who has any effect on that unit. So if the unit is within command range of 2 subcommanders, only the unit's assigned subcommader counts. And if the unit is out of range of its assigned subcommander, but within range of a different subcommander, the unit is still out of command.
In the end, only the assigned subcommander can give benefit or penalty, or determine command (with the exception of the overall commander). That's how I read it at least.
