French attack with two units against one Austrian unit. French subcommander has superior tactics ability. Austrian subcommander has poor tactics ability. French commander uses his abiility to allow one of his units to hit on 4+ (instead of normal 5+). French commander also uses his opponent's poor tactics to allow the other unit to his on 4+. Is this legal or illegal? "Limits on Tactics Bonus" section of the rules says "Each officer's tactics rating-good or poor-may only be used once per turn." Should "per turn" actually read "per combat"? In our game today, the two French units rolled 16 dice needing only 4+ to hit because of the double application of the tactics bonuses. This seemed way too powerful.
Another tactics question: the subcommander described above got himself killed in this combat, having to roll twice on the Officer Casualty chart, once per application of the tactics bonuses. On the next turn his ADC replacement--whose tactics rating was average--invoked the superior tactics bonus again (remember my Austrian subcommander was poor). Was this correct? I didn't like this any better when my opponent pointed out that ADCs don't roll for officer casualties! Please clarify.
