I guess the Swiss are just one of many allies used in the 1812 campaign , and I just use them as a Veteran French unit ?
Painting up a couple of units for some variety in my army to face my Ruskies :)

Hi Keith
My understanding that you could use them as an Elite Line Unit within the Elite Infantry Brigate support choice (along with converged Grenadier Battalions or 'Legion' infantry) or alternately as a 'regular' French Vet infantry Battalion. Both within a French force proper (not as an ally).

Ok thanks
I thought I might have missed an allied option , but I'll just use them as French units.
Hi Keith
I used to have two battalions of Swiss in my (now long gone) 1812 French Army. As a guide I think that there were four Swiss regiments (2 battalions each?) in French service until 1812, where they suffered like all the others. By 1815 there remnants were (again from memory..) reduced to two regiments.
Others might give you a more accurate account.
Interesting to note that many Swiss died defending the French monarcy during the Revolution, I guess not many of these survived to serve the Empire!

Stephen
I've used Swiss units with my French armies from as far back as 1970. When I and several friends did our research we realized that the Swiss and the Nassau were larger units than the six company French battalions and were similar in size to large Austrian infantry units. Since the days of Red Rules, Frappe, Empire I, II, III and so forth my friends and I have played the Swiss and Nassau units as large units. I plan to add several Swiss and Nassau units to my LaSalle French armies and they will be six stand units with two skirmishers. This was particularly well received by the British players when we played an 1815 scenario, they couldn’t wait to add a Nassau contingent.
