Is it possible for a unit to be transfered from the force of one subcommander to the force of another subcommander?

Can a Overall commander "take control" of units that are part of a sub-commander's "brigade" when they are out of range of the sub-commander?

Thanks...actually I found where it was in the rules. Totally clear...I just missed or forgot it.

On a related note, can a unit be "dropped off?"
Example: Russian Light Cavalry. When they come on, can the Cossacks be left with the Commander while the Hussars and Uhlans go gallivanting about? I am thinking of some sort of flank security, in woods, etc.

Yes you can, thou units out of command get pretty vulnerable with the penalties. You can off set this with using your CnC for the dropped off units.
cheers
