Hi chaps .....me and a few of the lads have been having a bit of a debate about using the Brits as the attacker ...next week I'm using the Brit Light Division as the attacking force against the French,....I think the light division is more than capable in attack even with the reserve support....whats the general opinion? and have any of you used them in competitions?

From the games I have played with the British the Light Div is the best option of a bad lot to attack with, though I think you really want the Brunswick support no matter what list you run.
We have run a couple of comps over here and the Brits have not done well at all filling the last two places each time.
For me I have placed them on the shelf too look at and started painting a Russian Army, though if you want a killer army go Austrian.
Hi Prinny ....I'm thinking about using Heavy Dragoons support for my reserve option ....possibly Impetuous to get the reroll....it will be a core plus one game with the french defending...using the defender wins if it times out ....I'll let you know the outcome
I hope your wrong as I would not like to see just continental armies at tourneys .....I wonder if Sam might up gun the Brits? ....probably not ....................cheers Paul
I think the problem is Organic Reserves and those armies that have access to them, particularly in a tourney setting.
Mind you, if you made ALL Support Reserves rather than (some)Organic, then we'd just see more of those armies that have cavalry in the core lists
As far as I can tell, the Peninsula British are French, except they have a large Elite unit and two SK bases instead of a sixth Infantry.
The British Hundred Days are completely identical to French Hundred Days (I was wondering about getting a Hundred Days British force as an opponent to a friend's Hundred Days French - but I yawned when I saw that it would be two identical armies facing each other).
The Light Division are appealing because they aren't "French in red coats". And they look darn nasty too, but have only five units on the table defending and seven attacking.
British are crippled by having all their cavalry brigades in Reserve, and their Light Cavalry Brigade is a bit naff. The so-called "Brunswick brigade" is an option (though totally unhistorical).
We've found that having 3 gun vs 4 gun batteries is also a bit of a drawback for the poor old British.
Plus the Generals arnt so flash as the French....
though my Cav general sure does like to be - Vig :(
My mate is going to be pleased - he's bought a British army. Still, he paints really well and i can see him selling it to me in 6 months [grin]
Thanks for the feedback lads...i'm not bashing the Brits, I actually think they are one of the most thought provoking armies that you can use....a good commander needs to be very subtle with them, and in defense thats a bit easier than attacking...the Light Division has some excellent attacking troops with the Rifles and the Elite unit.....
one of the aspects that makes it hard is that if you are playing with the Defender wins if the objective has not fallen rule and you have no cavalry to support the attack then its easy to get stalled by your opponents Organic cavalry and the game could easily time out.....The 3 gun Batteries make it hard as well.
In defense they are really good and I like to use the Heavy Dragoon reserves .....nothing better than seeing your opponent's face when they arrive just where you want them ...ready to pounce on already weakened enemy units....all in all Lasalle gives us plenty to think about and in my mind thats a good set of rules.....I'll let you know the outcome of the game .....I hope my opponent doesn't defend with the French Liberation as their Breakpoint is High and they have plenty of Artillery and possibly very good Generals!

I've played several games against a British light division based army (with French 1812 or 100 days) and it's hard to beat with honours running around 50/50. The large and elite units are hard to defeat - if you can't gang up on them with multiple units in attack then you're pretty much history.
Right Lads ....we played the British Light Division attack last night ...my opponent fielded a French Liberation army with organic Light cav support ...the Brits had heavy Dragoon reserves!
We rolled for the board and it came up river crossing...I told the French player to roll again as I did not want to try out the attack over the river! it could have been abit of a non game:)...he rolled again and it came up Chateau and town ( he wanted a Nobilty point for rolling again!)he put down 2 walls and I put down a hill in front of the walls!...right on to the battle!
The light division went straight in to the attack and the French light cav came forward to slow down the British infantry ....to cut along story short the french had a marginal victory ....but it was touch and go and some hairy moments for both of us!...in hindsight the Brits should have shot their way into the objective instead of going straight in with the bayonet ....the Rifles are a good option for suppressing the Artillery....I was a bit unlucky with a square breaking and my large Elite Battalion not having much success ....the French Light cav did well slowing down the Heavy Dragoons as well.
The French and Brit Subcommanders were all normal Tactics and +1 vigor so it was pretty fair....I wish the Brits could have managed to get a + Tactical sub commander who would have come in handy to lead my Elite unit in and punch a hole in the centre!
Can the Brits attack ...I would say most certainly ...can they do it in 16+ turns ...probably a little bit harder and against a Liberation army a bit tougher!
I don't play the Brits much so next time a couple of turns shooting especially against conscripts could have done the job!
