So reading through my rulebook again-P73, office tactics and training-optional ab- I surmised that if an army commander is killed or wounded, a chief of staff takes over, and the said commanders control influence is reduced from 10 band widths to 6-If a sub commander is killed, his vigour and tactics ratings are reduced by one level down-The only way it seems to me that a commander can get killed is to participate in combat and have a tactics rating that you have to roll for at game start-Am i wrong,or have I not got the ammendments sheet?--Cheers Marc--Just brought the rule book last week Sam!

pg 73.
An officer must take a casualty test immediately after:
• he used a tactics bonus; either his own, or an enemy’s.
• an enemy unit moves through him.Being overruned by the enemy is not as rare as one can think , specially with light cavalry araound

Commanders don't roll for tactics (or vigour), but they can use an opposing subcommanders poor tactics against them. If they do so, they do risk getting injured or killed in that combat. As Vilcum says above, you also roll when an enemy unit moves through you, which can easily happen if you have a commander behind a unit that gets broken and the enemy push forward after the combat.
