No one? OK
If i was to run an event would players prefure a tournament or a campaign weekend?
JP
I'd be interested as would some of my club mates including steadythebuffs. We're based in the South West and Lasalle has got around 8 of us dusting off our Napoleonics, rebasing them and playing every week. We run various other competitions during the year but would certainly look to run a Napoleonic one if numbers made it viable. (We'd need a minimum of 12 competitors.)
Regards
Andy
Well we have around 6 in South Yorkshire so we will have to see what we can do.
It's a long time since anyone posted in this this thread and I wondered if anything was actually happening in respect of an event?
If not I have a friend who has organised many competition events in the UK and is interested in setting something up if there would be enough support.
Assuming that nothing is already in the pipeline could interested parties sound off if they are keen to attend subject to venue and dates being suitable.
I can account for 3 potential players:
Myself
Trevor Allen (the possible organiser)
Andrew Whitmore
If you respond to the above can you say whether you would prefer to play in 15mm or 28mm and what base frontage you have standardised on?
The 3 players mentioned above can all do 15mm and TA can do 28mm as well.
I'd be interested, particularly in a 1 x day event [people to do, things to see]
I could do either:
1. 28mm - French, Perry based
2. 15mm - Russians. Based for, err, something else; infantry 30x30mm, cavalry 40x30mm, artillery 40x50mm. I spread my infantry out a bit when facing an opponent using standard 40x30 [or i've been toying with using "terrain" bases on the flank of each battalion to make up the correct width]
Cheers, James
I'd be up for an event preferably a friendly as opposed to competition style play. I can put together French and Russian in 15mm
I might be interested in such an event, depending on how far I would have to travel from my home in the West Midlands.
I am in the process of building a 15mm British Peninsular force, having only just got into Naps via Lasalle. Basing is 40mm by 30mm with 40mm square for arty. My mate is about to dip his toe and in the process of ordering some Frenchies and I might be able to convince him to come too. Although I am the worlds slowest painter so would need some time to get ready Lol
I would be up for it;
Austrian in 15mm 40mm frontage
If it helps I can get a venue that accomodates 80 for nowt. The venue could cope with more, but then there would be a cost attached.
I would also be happy to throw a lot of endeavour at organising the event including trying to get sponsorship and buy in from a few traders.
I played a game with Alan last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Must admit our game took a lot longer than normal as we had over 25 years of catching up to do. Also played a game a few weeks ago with James Woodward. I've had reservations about Lasalle, but I do think they could make a reasonable tourny set of rules - after all thats how Sam intended them. I am very limited in my experience of these rules, but am more than happy to put together a small one day event, hopefully in the Mansfield area. It would depend on numbers and dates, but I dont see a problem with this. I will talk to a potential venue and see if something could be put together. I dont mind organising anything as long as I can still get to play as well..........and at this time I'd also need to borrow an army if it was in 15mm, which is what I believe most of you would prefer. If Nosher wants to run an event great, as that could give us the opportunty to start a small circuit up at the same time.
Alan has only just returned to playing with toy soldiers and he mentioned that he was suprised how friendly the tournament circuit had become having seen an event recently at the Worlds in Derby.
Trev
Just spoken with Maelstrom Games in Mansfield, they are more than happy to be the venue. Cost for a one day event will be around £12 per head, predominantly for food and some trophies etc. I have also spoken with a co-conspirator to set the wheels in motion for this sooner rather than later.
Looking at my calendar for next year, I'd suggest somewhere in the April - July period. Thoughts please.
Trev
Well looking at it from a personal perspective and looking at other wargames events in the UK good times for an event would be;
Late March
End Aug early Sep
Any time in November or December.
Looking at dates available at the venue......
April 23rd or June 25th.....Both are Saturdays.
April 23rd would work for me
Well you can count me in. 15mm Saxons on 40mm frontages. although the April Bank Holiday may be an issue
Mansfield is probably too far out for me and I'm not that keen on a tournament style event either.
If anyone would prefer a non-tournament based event, for example a campaign day or a multi-player multi-table massed battle then I would still be happy to try and pull something together.
Nosher I hope that we can put together an event that can attract all tastes. As anyone who has read any of my posts will know I am not a tournament player - quite the opposite.
The principle objective is to gather the maximum number of Lasalle players together that we can, with an opportunity to play some games, learn from each other and share experiences.
Although the format will most likely be a Swiss style tournament just so that a lot of games can be played it is meant to be a friendly event not an all out serious competition. Just for those that don't know the Swiss system is not a knockout style tournament. Instead players are paired according to their results from each round with each player playing the next person immediately above or below them that they haven't played before. That means apart form the first round you tend to be playing against someone of a similar standard so everyone gets a challenging and hopefully interesting game.
Although I am a big fan of campaign and multi player games these take much more organising that a simple Swiss AB based tourney. Also a big battle would probably take more than a single day. I suspect that we would get fewer attendees for a 2 day event first time round. Also if we were fortunate enough to get a lot of support for this event it might be difficult to organise a single playable big battle. On the other hand if numbers were big (I am thinking in excess of say a dozen here) then there would be no reason why there couldn't be a big battle/campaign going on at the same time as the tourney for those that preferred it.
The main goals in my mind are to get to meet other Lasalle players and hopefully raise the profile of Lasalle on the UK scene.
I'm good for 23 April. I'm looking forward to getting together and playing LaSalle for a day. It would be especially nice to have a couple of games with guys i've not played before as well as old friends.
If the fellas at the top end up with something shiny (destined for a back bedroom/garage)fair play to them. Any prizes i hope are distributed randomnly; obviously i have a vested interest in that [grin]
So,
Trev - [Bavarians, perhaps]
JP - Avante Guard
Alan - [???]
Me/James - Russians
Guyot - Saxons
Andrew W - [???]
Its looking good boys.
James
The 23rd falls in the Easter holiday weekend (22-25 April). The following weekend is also a long holiday due to the Royal Wedding and Early May Holiday (29 April - 2 May). I suspect a lot of people may take off the 3 days in the middle to make a long break. This may affect the number of attendees adversely. I myself might be affected by this as I have some holiday plans myself which will not be crystallised until after the coming weekend. In general however I would prefer a sooner rather than a later date.

Your post raises an interesting question, namely are we going to have fantasy battles as part of the tourney e.g. Austrians v Austrians etc? Also what about periods e.g. Conquest v 1815?
I notice that in FOW competitions they do seem to stick to historical match-ups where possible and same period e.g. Early, Mid or Late War. The organisers ask entrants to submit 2 army lists where possible of opposing nationalities and one player is asked to field his second choice army if an un-historical match up would otherwise result. Players bring both armies and use one or both on the day.
Sticking to one historical period should be possible, with Conquest, Empire and Liberation offering the greatest flexibility. Of course that's a bit of a problem if someone want to field British or Spanish!
I appreciate that not everyone will have 2 armies but those that do could follow the above and this will reduce the number of un-historical match-ups.
To add to your list of participant armies:
Andrew W - Austrian, 15mm, 40mm bases
Me - French, Russian, Austrian, Prussian, Dutchy of Warsaw, Bavarian (will decide what to use later), 15mm, 40mm bases.
Trev - will probably borrow one of mine
Rules
I always play with all the Optional Rules in effect and would prefer to do so for the tourney. Any other opinions?
There are some grey areas in the rules and we should have a Rules Pack for the day that covers these in advance. A separate thread has been started for this. Could any known issues be posted there along with suggested solutions.
For me I would like to avoid Blue on blue but let everything else go. After all Sam did write it so all lists could play each other.
Hi All
Looks like my Austrians have been offered for slaughter by Alan and Trev, so you can count me in. A "one dayer" suits me the best and Swiss model sounds great. I will also have French ready by the spring (Alan has heard me say this for the past 6 months!)
Andrew
Where's that RulesPack Mr E.T.?
Borodino
The Rules Pack was 90% written a week ago. This week Trev has been making some final adjustments and it will be posted any time soon.
Hi Alan, i'm the colour-bind one!
James
I'd certainly be interested in a competition dependant upon locality and date. I'm from just south of Bristol so Mansfield might just be within range but I'd prefer a 2 day event if I'm travelling that far!
I have 15mm British and French on bases with a 40mm frontage.
