Here is a brief outline of the game:
The table size was 8 foot by 5 foot
Artllery could fire out at troops within sight but, but no Bounce through was allowed over normal rules ranges.
We allowed overhead fire at and from troops on higher elevations.
We did not play with the Tactical commanders rule and allowed everybody to be within command distances (as long as the brigades/Division operated together)
Other than that we played with all the Lasalle rules! and to be honest the game played realistically and smoothly ...The Core rule system work spot on even for larger Battles, I hope that the Blucher mechanics will be similar. We had plenty of people commenting on the game and giving positive views about Lasalle. (nice one Sam)
The French won basically because the British General did not use the reverse slope tactics and allowed his good British brigades to get chewed up by the French Artillery!
Then the French struck on the British right flank (around Hougomont) and turned the British flank. Hougomont fell as well and the French guard cavalry went through the Dutch Belgians like a knife through hot butter!
When the Prussians came on the Young and Middle guard with cavalry and Artillery support easily screened and held them back whilst the Brits did a runner back to blighty!
In large Battles like this you really need to keep a good reserve available, the Brits did not keep the Heavy Cavalry reserve in the centre and sent it off to support the wings in piecemeal attacks ....by the way I played the French but would like to refight the battle using the Brits and proper reverse slope tactics! ...who knows I might be able to then pull of the charge of the Scots Greys!
Cheers Paul
