What can my Cossacks do on the table ?
Being Irregular they can't charge anyone in the open.
So do I just lurk in the woods , and just use them for their pursuit ability at the end of the battle ?
What can I do with my Cossacks ?

Woods or rough terrain, yeah, that's about it. And they hang around to pursue or cover the pursuit.
They can also get in the way - i.e., be something the enemy cavalry has to disperse, which then exhausts them a little.

Hi Sam et al. Great set of rules. Have now had two games and both my opponent and I enjoyed them thoroughly.
Just following up a little on Keith's query. Can Cossacks countercharge regulars in the open? The rules forbid them from initiating a charge but there appears to be no express prohibition on countercharging unless it is covered on p.36 with the requirement that a "countercharge must adhere to all the limits and requirements of a normal charge move". Is the prohibition on charging a limit or requirement?
Thanks guys and Happy New Year

Sorry - if they can't charge, then they can't countercharge. The Cossacks are not in the mood to play "real cavalry." You don't pay them enough!

Thank you for that clarification, Sam.

Should they not be able to charge artillery (at least from the flank/rear)? Otherwise aren't they going to be used artificialy; shielding troops from charging, shooting etc particularly where they have to stay in command - mind you, if they can't charge anyway what's stopping them going off on a frolic of their own out of command
