Just started painting up British...definitly not up wih British units; big time French and Prussian person. I can figure out regulars, rifles and Guards, but stumped at "Elite" units per the British Army List. Which units were classed as "Elite".

For the British, a lot of people are going to tell you that the Fusiliers, Lights, Highlanders, and such are "Elite". Sure, they were sort of given "Elite" status, but the reality is that it could be any British unit. Some of the British Line (Regular) units have a history of outstanding conduct on the battlefield and so can be passed off as "Elite" in a Lasalle game.
This doesn't only apply to the British Army. This goes for all Napoleonic armies, in that some Line (or Regular) units appeared to be more "elite" than normal. But it goes both ways, in that some Line (or Regular) units appeared to be inferior or more shaky than normal.
The short of it is this, don't restrict yourself to only black and white clarifications. There are some gray areas that a gamer can have fun with.

The only real restriction is to make sure your opponent is clear which units are elite.
Wellington differentiated between his "old Spanish infantry" which he privately believed "really are the best infantry in the world" and his "young" or "new regiments" (which he had little faith in). A typical "old Spanish" battalion, the 1/28th, had gone through several battles and was composed of old soldiers (i.e. average age in the 30s) - at Waterloo the average length of service with the colours of these was ten years. In contrast, the 3/14th, a "new regiment" at Waterloo, comprised mostly very young recruits.
Appearance wise - I'd suggest that a tough veteran Spanish battalion would be likely to have rather worn faded uniforms, a few with captured French backpacks, and a few greyheads among them; while a "new regiment" is likely to be distinctly "younger" looking.
