We generally find the Defender winning more often, but if your group fears that the Attackers have an advantage, it is easy to adjust by taking away one of the Attacker's Bonus units from his Core List.
For us it has been close with the defenders taking the honours ... all the games but one 'odd' one have been very close though. Although we have only had about 6 proper games to be fair.
We have had the defender winning most of the games. In our cases, cavalry has a field day, keeping the attacking infantry columns in square, while the clock runs out. The attackers have not done very well with their own cavalry.
We have played something like 4-5 games so far.
Well I would say it is early to try any changes. I was just curious about how other people were doing. We've had players playing on both sides and I have a couple of ideas of my own to try as defender so I will give it a try as soon as I can.
The wins for the attacker were:
Peninsular: french infantry div + dragoons against brit inf div + heavy cav ( french attacker victory )
Empire: Russian infantry division plus 3 supports against french infantry division + 3 supports ( russian attacker victory )
Peninsular: french infantry division + light cav brig vs brit infantry division + heavy cav (french attacker victory )
Liberation: prussian inf div + light cav vs french inf div + light cav ( prussian attacker victory )
Mainly what we've seen is that the attacker has two ways of winning, cas and objective, the defender always just casualties and the attacker has the early initiative to set the terms of the engagement early. All players are experienced wargamers so infnatry advances are always well supported and they have all learned quickly that static artillery is no good in Lasalle and they are better of taking their cav to good attacking positions...
The last game, prussians against french is were I think the odds would be better for the defender... almost same amount of troops. But the defender french was to defensive, I think if he had taken the battle forward things would have been different. Since he didn't I was able to establish a well coordinated attack with my infantry and cavalry, and even use my Landwer cav to great effect against enemy artillery ( since esprit is not an issue )...
All of the games were great fun...
I'll keep tracking the win loss ratio to see what happens. It is interesting that most other groups have seen the edge to the defender...
PS: Gen. Brady, I see your point but running the clock only gets you a draw. I am looking for defender breaking the opponent and winning.
cheers
